I received an email from Cloudflare yesterday, a notification about approaching the free tier limit for Workers. While I rely on Cloudflare at work, maintaining it for personal use - especially when hitting usage limits - suddenly felt unnecessary. In a moment of clarity (or perhaps impulsiveness), I ditched serverside JavaScript and returned to my roots - PHP. I rewrote every add-on and can now [host it for free](/how-i-host-my-stuff-for-free-on-digitalocean) alongside other scripts I have on DigitalOcean. Is this over-engineering for a simple blog? Probably. But that's part of what makes personal projects enjoyable. I'll apply all those changes by tomorrow.
